Alkaline, organic & caffeine-free: Is lupin coffee really that healthy?

We investigate the question and look at the properties of Loffee in more detail.

Lupin coffee is on everyone's lips, not least because of the increasingly difficult growing conditions for "normal" coffee. The health benefits it is said to bring are making many people think about whether it could be a good alternative to conventional coffee for them too. But is lupin really that healthy? In this article, we explore the question and take a closer look at the possible health benefits and side effects.

Health benefits? Only with roasted sweet lupin seeds!

If we want to find health benefits, then we have to focus on sweet lupins, because: The alternative, namely bitter lupins, would be poisonous and not suitable for consumption due to their high alkaloid content.

Our Loffee naturally consists exclusively of sweet lupins. To avoid contamination, we only source our lupins from farmers who do not grow any bitter lupins at all.

Advantage N°01 for our health: lupin coffee is caffeine-free

Lupin coffee is 100% caffeine-free. This may sound banal at first, but it is actually one of the biggest advantages of Loffee.

Caffeine-free coffee (substitutes) are a great relief for many people because they can be enjoyed in any quantity at any time of the day or night. There are no problems with the heart due to the caffeine (shakiness due to too much coffee) and the sleep rhythm is not affected in any way, so sleep problems due to caffeine are a thing of the past.

Since the consumption of Loffee no caffeine is absorbed, there is no risk of becoming addicted to normal coffee, which is often referred to as the "people's drug". This also means that the typical side effects of coffee withdrawal, such as headaches and irritability, do not occur.

So if you want to get away from the "vice" of caffeine and are looking for a caffeine-free coffee alternative, you'll find it at Loffee without compromising on flavor!

By the way, we have explained here why we think lupin coffee is the better choice than decaffeinated coffee.

 Lupin coffee is infused

Advantage N°02: Lupin coffee is virtually acid-free

Coffee drinkers are certainly familiar with the problem: just when you take your first sip of coffee in the morning and your stomach acid has not yet fully regulated, the coffee burns down. This can quickly lead to heartburn and stomach pain.

This problem is virtually eliminated with lupin coffee. The reason for this lies in the natural composition of the lupin and in our processing.

Much of the "normal" coffee we drink still contains chlorogenic acid. This acid cannot be broken down, especially in hot, short roasts, and thus causes the typical stomach ache and heartburn.

Lupin coffee, on the other hand, naturally contains no acid at all. As we use our Loffee roasted very gently and by hand in a classic drum roaster (maximum 180°), no bitter substances are produced, so that even people with sensitive stomachs do not have to worry about discomfort from Loffee have to worry.

Lupin coffee is therefore virtually acid-free and the perfect choice for anyone who otherwise suffers from heartburn or stomach pain when drinking coffee.

Benefit N°03 for our health: lupin coffee is alkaline

Do you pay attention to a good acid-alkaline balance in your diet? Then we have good news: lupin coffee is the best alternative to espresso or coffee, which are very acidic in comparison.

A predominantly acidic diet (too much meat and sugar, too few vegetables and fruit) can lead to an imbalance of the pH value in the body. The body then tries to compensate for this imbalance, which often leads to digestive problems. It is therefore usually recommended to avoid coffee with this type of diet.

In contrast to coffee, lupin does not contain any acid, as explained above. However, every roasting or browning process (whether grain or beans) contributes to the formation of acid. Compared to coffee, however, this acidity is very low. This is particularly true of our Loffeewhich is always roasted particularly gently. Our variety has the lowest degree of roasting "The mild one".

The question of whether lupin coffee is metabolized in an alkaline way due to the low acidity caused by roasting, cannot yet be answered with reliable data. In any case, there is agreement that organic-lupin coffee as "good acidifier" and can therefore be consumed without hesitation within the recommended 20 to 30 % of acid-forming foods. Normal coffee, on the other hand, is considered a poor acidifier and should, if possible, be avoided altogether.

Lupin coffee is therefore a perfect component of a healthy, balanced and low-acid diet and is the perfect coffee substitute for anyone who suffers from digestive problems.

Advantage N°04: Loffee is organic

Our lupin coffee is not only caffeine-free and alkaline, but also organic. Loffee Our lupin coffee is certified organic and is grown without the use of harmful substances such as pesticides or herbicides and roasted in Bavaria to the highest German standards.

In principle, the absence of such substances is of course always a welcome advantage and is also available in "normal" coffee. However, the lupin has a decisive advantage: it copes much better with the requirements of organic farming than coffee, for example. It is naturally less demanding when it comes to fertilizers and is resistant to most pests. This means that organic farming is easier for farmers to implement for this natural product, allowing us to offer a large selection of raw lupins. This means we can always offer you the best quality.

In another article we have already written about why we love organic lupins.

Advantage N°05: Loffee Contains very little histamine

In order to offer you the best possible safety, we would like to offer you a medically tested contribution by Prof. Dr. Gerhard Jahreis, Chair of Nutritional Physiology at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena:

"While soy products, especially if they are fermented, are not recommended for histamine sensitivity, among legumes, peas and lupins are particularly suitable for a low-histamine diet."

With our 100 % additive-free Loffee you can also enjoy them with peace of mind.

Side effects of drinking lupin coffee?

We are asked this question time and again, but fortunately we can answer it simply: we are not aware of any side effects.

Of course, this statement does not apply if you are allergic to lupins. However, lupin allergies are very rare and are roughly on a par with soy allergies. Nevertheless, you should seek medical advice if you suspect an allergy.

The reason for this question, however, is not the rare occurrence of allergies, but above all uncertainty as to whether sweet lupins or bitter lupins are used. The consumption of bitter lupins, which unlike sweet lupins contain alkaloids, can actually cause side effects.

However, there is no reason for this concern when eating Loffee no reason. The Federal Institute for Risk Assessment confirms this in a detailed analysis and speaks of only a very low risk of side effects even with debittered bitter lupins. As we do not have to resort to artificially treated bitter lupins, but use the harmless sweet lupins, the possibility of side effects from alkaloids is ruled out here.

Lupin coffee made from sweet lupins and therefore our Loffee can be enjoyed carefree and without fear of undesirable effects.

Conclusion: Free from side effects, full of benefits

So we can conclude: Lupin coffee is a great coffee alternative with an excellent taste that is not only free from annoying side effects, but is also full of benefits for a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

By consuming Loffee you are also supporting the local economy and the environment.

Hallo Jens,
